1929 (17th June) "Joseph Charles" large pre-printed "By Air Mail Western Australian Centenary East West Air Mail....." env "Wholly set up and printed in Australia by R.S.Sampson, 971-973 Hay St., Perth" for conveying catalogues weighing between 7½ & 8 ozs. Produced to enhance the overall weight of mail loadings & assist Brearley to attract a greater numeration for mail carried by Air. Between 4th June & 2nd July over 10,500 catalogues were transported by this means. A special postal regulation on 2nd August 1929 put an end to this scheme. Franking consists of 2/- maroon kangaroo, 3rd wmk, 4d olive & 1/4d greenish-blue KGV (both SMW Perf. 14) & 1929 3d Airmail tied by Perth machine cancel. Note: the 1/4d greenish blue (ACSC 129A) is catalogued at $2500 on a multi-franked cover such as this. Worn edges but a very rare survivor!
