Aegean Islands (Rhodes) – German Occupation 1945 (27th Jan) "Feldpost" cover with 5c Rhodes ovptd "WEINACHTEN 1944" (Xmas) addressed to Germany. Ovpt locally applied at direction of German Commandant to boost morale of his Wehmacht forces thus the stamps ovptd were provided free to his troops for Christmas mail home. Letter flown on Luftwaffe flight in Feb 1945. Exc cond & accompanied Mogler cert. (1990). Also Carl H. Lange handstamp initialled on reverse of cover. Michel cat. €1700 on cover
