1935 to 1950 Collection titled "Frank Wise correspondence" over 18 pages containing 17 covers, a letter & an airletter. Frank Wise was a WA Statesman who joined the state Labor Party in 1920, won the seat of Gascoyne in 1933, became a minister for agriculture & the north-west, in 1936 & became Premier on 31st July 1945 upon the resignation of John Wilcock. When Labor lost the 1947 elections he became leader of the Opposition until 1951 when he was appointed administrator of Northern Territory & President of the NT legislative council until 1956 when he was elected to the Legislative Council of WA until 1971. All covers are Airmail letters either to or from the northwest of WA, the 1949 airletter is from Rangoon to Cottesloe & contains interesting details of the slow development in Asia after WWII. This letter & another from Derby dated 30th May 1942 allude to Frank Wise's keen interest in collecting "World flown envelopes" covers incl one from "Hall's Creek Road District" (1935), an Express Delivery cover from Broome 1935 plus Registered covers from Carnarvon 1937 x 2 & Derby 1942. Noted a West Kimberley Road Board cover from Derby. Odd damage upon opening on some otherwise all in good cond. Only the 1947 ED cover is addressed to the Premiers Office Perth. (21 covers + corres)
