1842 (2nd May) "Description Of Australind, Western Australia to Accompany the Town Plan"" printed entire addressed to Capt. I.R. Carnac Ret., Portland Place in London, with stamp removed but clear "G EYG MY 2 1842" h/s in red with neighbouring "Old Broad Street" in black. Carnac joined HMS Success with Capt. James Stirling on 23 January 1826. In March 1827 Success arrived in Western Australia to explore the Swan River area to assess its suitability for settlement. Stirling renamed Isle Bethelot as Carnac Island. Carnac was appointed Captain in 1837, Admiral in 1868. Fascinating content. Entire is heavily folded & must be handled with care.
