1953 (2nd May) Crash of BOAC Comet. First jet plane to crash that was carrying mail. 43 passengers & crew died. Airmail env with Singapore 1 May 1953 but stamps missing from water damage. Addressed to Salisbury, UK. "SALVAGED MAIL "Comet" Crash, Near Calcutta. 2nd May 1953" cachet in purple next to address. "May" in lower case lettering, different to the majority of the cachets struck.
