1942 (15th Jan) Ascot Vale (Victoria) to Basra, Iraq registered cover to Sgt Reading of Devon Regiment c/- FPO 41 Basrah with censor tape overstruck with boxed "Passed by Censor" in violet. "Base Air Post Depot", "C-Base Post Office REG" & F.P.O. No. 41" b/s's. Heavy spotting. Notes indicate likely to have been flown on KNILM DC3 into Batavia & then KLM to Basra. Interesting as these flights ceased a couple of weeks later. Stained & worn but evidence of an alternate WWII air mail route.
