1840 1d black Mulready envelope struck with neat, central Maltese Cross in black with red sealing wax on reverse. Contains the original 1886 letter relating to the Mulready concept ending with "the envelope is in itself the stamp". Knutsford date stamp in black on reverse but date illegible. Minor top left corner damage but a wonderful example of late usage, unusually cancelled by the MC for such a time. Cat. £550+
