1899 (19th Jan) small piece with 2d bisect yellow swan stamp tied by Coolgardie duplex DxPO-a index 7 (Index 7 not recorded in PMI or PMC). Note: The following comments regarding WA bisect stamps are taken from "Western Australia The Stamps and Postal History" WA Study Group 1979 publication. "...bisects do exist and have apparently done genuine postal duty. All those seen are from the 1890's and early 1900's... bisects were never authorised or legal" & furthermore, are regarded as "a counterfeit and as such was prohibited under 17 Vic 12. The sentence to which one was liable was in fact rather severe... to be transported beyond the seas for life, or for any term not less than seven years, or to imprisoned for a term not exceeding four years, nor less than two years with or without hard labour, as the Court shall award". Thus is it any wonder then that this is the first example we have handled! A fine piece of WA postal history.
