German Colonies-East Africa 1889 "Official" black on pink imperf block of 4 stamps with native inscription equivalent of "POSTS OF THE SULTAN OF WITULAND" with five pointed star. This star is inverted on lower right stamp resulting in a tete-beche pair. Germany established under its protection the Suaheli Sultanate under Sultan Fumo Bakari from May 1885 until July 1890. They called it the Witu Protectorate. From 1890 onwards, Britain assumed control of this area. Ex Beaumont collection provenance. Jakubek Cert. (1993).
