1915-1917 Trans-Australian Railway Postcards. A group of 20 "Kodak Austral" cards depicting the various aspects of construction incl Locomotives, Signal Boxes, Tracklayer, Pay Train, Kitchens, Spiking Gang & Erecting Telegraph Poles. Unfortunately a number of them have fades but are restorable. A most interesting lot especially as the photographer has written on the reverse explaining the scenes. One reads, "I took this view of our "black brethren" on a materials train carrying rails to the head of the line." & another "One of the xpress Loco engines on the Trans Rwy taking water at Karonie 69 miles from Kalg. The Engine weighs 110 tons" plus an entertaining look another aspect with "Part of the crowd playing "two up" at Rawlina 235 miles from Kalg, some of the men lost all the money they had before they reached Kalg. Taken Oct 1916." & finally "First overland Express from Port Augusta coming into Kal Rly Station at 2.55pm on Wednesday Oct 24th 1917 drawn by Locomotive P16. Over 3000 people assembled to see arrival of first train." A fascinating assembly with all cards annotated accordingly with the scenes. (20)
