Dowding, Muriel signature on 1986 GB 17p Lord Dowding FDC. Lord Dowding was Commander of RAF Fighter Command in WWII. Baroness Dowding was his second wife who he married in 1951 & is reported to have married after her first husband, who died in battle, contacted him through a medium & requested he meet her for lunch! Under her influence, he gave up game shooting & became a strict vegetarian & campaigner for animal rights. Comes with flyer from a RAF 1986 tribute event to him.
